ABOUT

Kätlin Kool is a photographer and a mixed media artist living and working in New York City.

A graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, Kätlin experienced the transformation from analog photography to digital photography during her studies. This is evident in her images, which exude a nuanced understanding of light. Her photographs are characterized by rich colors and striking contrasts.

With over 15 years of experience in commercial photography, Kätlin has collaborated with numerous small businesses and ad agencies, continually honing her skills.

In 2013, she redirected her focus to illustration photography, with a passion for flowers and floral design. Her approach to photography extends beyond the mere visual representation, delving deep into the essence of her subjects.

"I find many of my flowers from local flower shops, farmer's markets and in the wild," says Kätlin. Some early mornings you can spot her in the NYC Flower District. She only works with real flowers and keeps a curated collection of some of her most favorite dried flowers in her studio.

Kätlin grew up in Estonia, a country in Northern Europe that is steeped in mythology and folklore. In fact, the legend has it, you can still encounter Vikings, fairies and werewolves deep in the forests there. Easily accessible, however, are the white nights in the summers and the pitch-black winters that sometimes get disrupted by aurora borealis.

An introvert at heart, Kätlin immerses herself in literature, calligraphy, writing, and collage-making. She was mentored for a decade by master printer and collage artist R.H. Warner and has refined her artistic vision through this dedicated mentorship.

Kätlin is also known to be a cat whisperer who fuels her creativity with large amounts of black coffee and candy. Occasionally, she embarks on nomadic journeys that span for months.
